The question on the heart of every person is simple: “where is love?”

Most people leave it unanswered. The aim of this movement is simple: to find humanity’s answer to that question. The findWIL movement strives to use photography, videography, and other art mediums to launch people into life-changing love encounters. By rallying artists to utilize a life-sized, headless mannequin in their creations—which symbolizes an incompleteness apart from authentic love—and by collecting stories from people in their quests to find love, the findWIL movement invites everyone to join the campaign to discover real love.

Where It's Been:

findWIL (Where Is Love) began as a photography movement. Following a series of radical spiritual encounters (for more on that, check out the book Where Is Love?), Zach Wathen began photographing a headless mannequin to symbolize a sense of incompletion apart from authentic love. Lugging the mannequin across the country and eventually the world, Zach interviewed hundreds of people, asking where they found love. Beyond revealing much about our day in age, the findWIL movement has opened doors for people of all walks of life to converse about their definitions and origins of love. As the movement gains momentum and partners with artists all over the world, its aim remains unchanged since its genesis: to use art to document humanity’s quest for authentic love and humanity’s incompletion without it.

Where It's Going:

The findWIL movement began with a single snapshot, a seed planted with the flash of a camera that we hope grows into an expanse of light capturing the whole world’s attention. Remaining true to our mission but constantly using momentum to evolve, findWIL seeks to alter the atmosphere of an age caught up in violence and hate. Because the art created in a generation marks and defines it for history, findWIL wants to rally artists to make art as a counterargument against hopelessness. Be a part of the story. Learn how you can partner with us to reveal true love to a starving world.

TIMELINE

· PHASE ONE ·

We made the decision to photograph a headless mannequin with the words “WHERE IS LOVE” written across its chest in a permanent marker. The marker bleeds into the plastic, so that as the mannequin rubs against things, the words would begin to fade yet the stain would remain—much in the same way that the search for love haunts us no matter what circumstances try to fade it. We removed the mannequin’s head to symbolize that no matter our surroundings, a sense of incompletion is always present without authentic love. We ensured the mannequin was in the center of every photograph, symbolizing how the search for love is always at the center of our existence.

· PHASE TWO ·

In an attempt to discover where people have searched for love and where love actually can be found, we began bringing the mannequin along while photographing destination weddings and other gigs. Interacting with hundreds of people, we discovered a desperation behind their quests for a true love. Seeing the universality of the hunger to find love, we expanded our vision. Instead of having a few of us photograph a mannequin and capture the journey many are on as they search for love, we decided to raise up an army of photographers and videographers to document humanity’s quest for love.

· PHASE THREE ·

Realizing that a larger movement would require infrastructure and resources, we began making sacrifices in finance, time, other pursuits, and relationships. All available income was poured into provision for findWIL. Consulting friends and family, we leveraged our gifts and strengths to strategize the movement’s deployment.

· PHASE FOUR ·

Needing to lay out a clear foundation and vision for the findWIL movement,
Zach, in cooperation with Michael Brooks, wrote the book Where Is Love? to chronicle his journey of discovering authentic love as well as his vision for using the arts to reclaim the world for true love. The book was published independently and can be found on Amazon.

· PHASE FIVE ·

As the day in age is visual in nature, we created a comprehensive brand kit and visual content in the form of photography, videography, animation, screen print, digital print, choreography, lighting, design, ect. We also strategized how to sustain a movement on the back end.

· PHASE SIX ·

Having created the necessary material and support structure to sustain a movement, we launched. We began employing artists to capture love’s search with the mannequin, creating supplementary material, revising and rethinking existing material, and raising support.

· PHASE SEVEN ·

As we continue to partner with artists and promote the search for and restoration of authentic love through digital and print media, we seek greater outlets of exposure, always adapting to improve while remaining faithful to our original values. Now, we watch and wait to see our vision unfold.
